Europe’s underwater museum
On the seabed of Las Coloradas bay off Playa Blanca, around 12–15 metres down, stand some 300 life-size sculptures by the British artist Jason deCaires Taylor, opened in 2016 as Europe’s first underwater museum. The figures double as an artificial reef, slowly colonised by fish and marine life. It is seen by diving with an authorised dive centre; snorkellers can glimpse it from the surface.
