A Casa José Saramago
The Nobel laureate’s island home
The Portuguese writer José Saramago, winner of the 1998 Nobel Prize in Literature, spent the last years of his life in this house in Tías with his wife Pilar del Río. Opened to visitors in 2011, it is kept much as he left it: his study, his library of thousands of books and the garden with the olive tree he loved. Visits are guided; check times before you go.
