Vines in a sea of black ash

One of Lanzarote’s most extraordinary landscapes: a vast sweep of black volcanic ash where single vines grow in thousands of scooped hollows, each shielded from the wind by a low crescent wall of stone. Found nowhere else on Earth, it is a mesmerising, almost lunar patchwork — best seen on the scenic LZ-30 road that winds through it, with sweeping viewpoints across the valley.
